analyzing Mise en Scene in a Scene

The table is brightly lit which allows the creepy figure in the centre to be seen, the two figures to the side are kept partially in shadow, perhaps in order to create the effect that they might not be good people. Usually brightly lit characters are thought to be the good guys, however putting such a creepy character in the scene makes you question that notion. The lighting could be used to convey that the person in the middle is happy with who they are but the people next to them are disappointed. The dark clothes suggest a gloomy atmosphere and the plain walls suggest that they are unable to express themselves. The red roses on the table contrast the gloomy atmosphere as they usually represent something happy which is not what we see in the image.
