Vox Pop Feedback

We had to show our finished videos to the class today. Mine was quite well recieved, they praised the audio and thought that the picture in picture thing was very cool, I was the only person in the class who used that technique. They did however mention that the camera angle was a bit too high, relegating the interviewee to a corner of the screen. They also felt that instead of showing me asking the person the question each time, I could have just created a title card with the question on it and the cut in their responses to the question.

I agree with the feedback that I recieved and in the future will take this into account in order to improve the quality of my work over all. If I were to do this project again, then I would definitely make changes to the angle of the camera as well as how I edited the film in general. I would probably also try to better the quality of the Zoom audio, so that I wouldn’t have to rely on the Camera audio.

Vox Pop Editing

Once the recording was done we had to edit it into an actual video. One thing I found very early on was that the Zooms had not captured the sound very well, you could hear the people but they were all very quiet. It meant that I had to use the audio from the Camera, this was not as bad as I thought it might be, as the audio was clear and easy to hear, likely because we were filming inside in a small room.

One thing I did was use the Picture in Picture feature in order to include small segments of the film in the corner of the picture, to give people an idea of what the films that people were talking about were like. This was something that I had to learn from scratch as prior to this project, I didn’t know how how to do this. Luckily my classmates and teaching assisstants were very helpful in teaching me how to create this effect.

Vox Pop interviews

We had to interview some people for our Vox Pop project. I interviewed three of my classmates; Finn, Stephan and Kira.

One issue I had was finding people who were able to be interviewed, this was due to the subject matter that I had chosen, rather than lack of willingness to participate. A lot of the people in the class had not seen a B movie, which is what I had based my interview around. This meant that I could not interview them, as they would have had nothing interesting to say. If I do another Vox Pop, I should choose a subject that is more widely known, so that I don’t have to waste as much time trying to find participants.
